About us
Trafalgar Lodge is owned and operated by Sue Ellis and her daughter Emily Aitkenhead.
Sue has had more than 50 years experience in the equine industry. From successfully competing Grand Prix show jumping, to training Group winning racehorses, Sue has dedicated her life to her passion for horses. She has worked closely with some of the best veterinarians in NZ and Australia, and has been entrusted with the care of many sick and injured horses, achieving outstanding results. Sue is also currently the Melbourne flight co-ordinator for Equine International Air Freight.
Emily started riding before she could walk and horses have always played a major role in her life. Emily has developed a wealth of knowledge and experience in many aspects of the equine world, including riding at professional jumping stables in Belgium and Germany. From competing in eventing, show jumping, dressage and showing, to riding trackwork for 8 years, to re-training many racehorses into successful performance horses along with pre-training current racehorses, Emily brings a balanced style to get the best out of each individual horse. Like her mum, she has a keen interest in the rehabilitation of sick and injured horses and has invaluable hands-on experience in this area.
